Young golfers don’t tremble before Woods

This was on the Web. I think I spend too much time surfing.

While eyes remained riveted on Tiger Woods last weekend, two young golfers produced performances worthy of attention. The strong play of Rickie Fowler and Bud Cauley, and the continuing struggles of Woods, a 14-time major champion, call to mind a line that Steve Jobs delivered at a Stanford commencement six years before his death.

It rained cats and dogs during the first round of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys golf championships at Robert Trent Jones Course at Cornell University on Sunday, but that didn’t stop Andrew Romano of Depew, Section VI champion Matt Petrosian of Lewiston-Porter and Austin Nowak of Lancaster from having nice days.

GRAND ISLAND A pair of Heartland golfers qualified for state at the D-3 District Meet, Monday in Grand Island. Junior Jesse Nissen shot a 78 and finished just one shot behind individually champion Salvador Molina Toledo of Heartland Lutheran.
