Sunday Stroll: Two area golfers hit double eagles

A couple of area golfers had memorable days on the course Saturday. Dennis Breske hit a hole-in-one on the par-4 fifth hole at Westward Ho, while Zane Swenson, a club pro at Brandon Golf Course, hit a double-eagle on the par-5 No. 1. Breske’s ace was from 292 yards, and he used a driver. Westward Ho said it was the first double eagle at the course in a “considerable amount of time.”

Local golfers made the Carolinas Golf Association’s list of hole-in-one rarities last year as three scored two aces each during the calendar year.

Two area golfers sank holes-in one recently. Bob Swenson hit a hole-in-one on No. 4 on the Pines Course at Lake Arrowhead on Tuesday. He used a pitching wedge to hit the 100-yard shot. Two golfers at a San Diego area country club drew a most unlikely pair of aces. Charles T. White nailed a hole-in-one on the 9th hole Sunday at Bernardo Heights Country Club. Next up in the foursome was Kitty Tinker, who matched it. The players’ reaction? White says “Disbelief is a good word.” A spokesman for the club confirmed the consecutive aces Monday.
