Most golfers play with a handicap. It’s the number of strokes they receive to level the playing field against players of different skill levels. But Gary Weller is a golfer who has lived with a real-life handicap every day since April 2004 when he became the victim of a crime.

OWASSO — Po-Hi’s Wildcat golfers kicked off their season Monday with a third place finish in the 17-team Owasso Tournament. “We played pretty well for our first tournament,” coach Jerry Orr said as his team posted a 323 score, just four strokes behind second place Owasso on the Rams’ home course.

Things are looking good for the Council Rock North golf team at the PIAA state tournament in York. The Indians are leading in the team competition after the first of two days with 308 strokes and Brandon Dalinka is in second place after shooting a even-par 71 Monday at Heritage Hills Golf Club. J.D. Dornes of Manheim Township leads with a 1-under-par 70.

Pa. Boys: La Salle golfers top Prep to win District 12 crown

Apparently the La Salle golf team likes the Island Green golf course better than Ravens Claw. The Explorers fired a 303 and won the District 12 title Tuesday at Island Green. They lost the Catholic League title last week to St. Joseph’s Prep by 8 strokes at Ravens Claw, but beat the Hawks by 6 strokes for the district crown.
